Linked product

General settings

The settings for the linked product functionality are in Settings > Product Configurator > Link products / stock management options

Linked products options, default settings
Default settings

Linked product options:

  • Choose what the linked product does:
Add the linked product to the cart, or stock management only
  • When linking a product for stock management, also link the price:
Only available when the Extra price add-on is also installed, allows using the price from the linked product as the choice extra price.
  • When linking a product for stock management and adding the linked product to the cart, use the extra price and not the linked product’s price:
The extra price set in the configurator will override the price of the linked product which is added to the cart
  • Hide the linked products in the cart, checkout and order

Note: For performance reasons, the linked product data is saved to the configurator data asynchronously. As a result, it can take a few seconds to a few minutes before the prices and stock are all up to date.
As such, it might also be necessary to purge the cache in order to see them reflected.

Other options:

  • Enable the selection of an item when it is out of stock:
The item cannot be added to the cart (unless if backorder is enabled), but the user can still preview the item
  • Hide items when they are out of stock:
Hides the choices in the configurator
  • Disable asynchronous data synching when linking a product:
The linked product data is synched using WooCommerce’s Action Scheduler, to prevent server overload when data is saved. In some instances, that can be an issue. You can try to enable this setting if the linked data does not appear to update correctly.

Choice settings

Choice stock can be managed by linking them to other products in the shop. In order to do so:

  • Go to the section “Stock management” of the choice settings,
  • Select the option “Link the choice to a product in the shop, and use the product’s stock management” in the “Manage stock” setting,
  • Press Select a product in the Linked product setting, and search the product you want to link to the choice.

Other settings:

Linked quantity mode

If the choice corresponds to 1 item in the shop, you can leave the quantity settings as is. You can also decide that the choice needs to use more than one quantity, and set the linked product quantity setting accordingly.

The other option is to let the customer choose the quantity. This is done by choosing “Quantity set by user”. A quantity field will then appear in the frontend.
Once this option is selected, you will have the option to set a minium and maximum quantity:

Visibility of the linked product in the cart

When the linked product is added to the cart, you can choose whether it is visible or not.
There is a general setting in Settings > Product Configurator > Linked product / Stock management to set the default visibility of the linked products which are added to the cart. The setting in the choice allows overriding this option for each item.

Price options

If you are also using the Extra price add-on, you will get more price options when the setting “When linking a product for stock management, also link the price” is enabled:

By default, the choice uses the linked product price.

Though it is possible to override the price. When choosing to override the linked product price, you can choose whether to simply use the extra price value instead of the product price, or you can choose to multiply the linked product price instead. This is useful if you want the price in the configurator to be a percentage of the price in the shop:

When overriding the price and setting a Linked product quantity, you also get the option to “Multiply extra price by linked product quantity”.
